This 12,700 square foot library, built by the local Women’s Christian Temperance Union chapter in 1911, has the charm of the past and the facilities of the future.

The spacious upstairs houses adult fiction and nonfiction, children’s books, periodicals, movies, audio books, ten computer stations and a study room. Third grade through high school books, study room, offices and a large meeting room are downstairs. Hundreds of children from pre-school through teens are involved in reading programs held throughout the year. The summer reading program alone signed up 110 (K-5th) last year and ended with a Summer Reading Sloppy Sundae Party end of June.

The Christmas Bazaar, a tradition begun 111 years ago by the ladies of the WCTU to benefit the library, continues to this day. An army of volunteers prepare and serve a traditional turkey dinner, using original WCTU recipes, to over 500 diners the first Friday in December.

The meeting room is also home to the Rotary Club which meets weekly, with an average attendance of 22. In addition, the room is used for County receptions, banquets, and the State Health Department Immunization Clinic held every other month.
